How to Incorporate an Accent Wall in Your Home

If you’re looking to add a design element to your interior walls, accent walls are the perfect entry into trying something new. They feel bold and interesting, but are classic enough that they won’t feel dated after a few years.
What is an Accent Wall?
An accent wall is one wall that’s painted a different color than the other walls in the room. They draw your eye in and are perfect for creating a focal point. For example, accent walls are often done on the wall of a fireplace, or the wall behind a bed, but they can really be anywhere that you want to lead the eye. We often have clients that chose an accent wall that accompanies a stairwell, which also aids in leading your eye around the room in a pleasing way.
The Best Colors for Accent Walls
Years ago, accent walls were often bright, bold pops of color. While this still can work in the right space, more often now we’re seeing bolder neutrals that are cohesive with the existing color palate. For example, instead of a bright blue wall surrounded by white walls, we’d recommend a navy blue accent wall accompanied by a soft, neutral grays, or a deep, rich brown accompanied by light, creamy beige tones. For our customers, we offer color consultation services from our partner, LAD Interior Design. Their team can help you choose the perfect palate if you’re unsure of which direction to go.
Accent Wall Ideas That Do Not Include Paint
Most of the time, accent walls are created by contrasting paint colors, but there are other options as well. Contrasting textures, such as shiplap, stone, or brick, can also provide the same effect.
